Temporary Accommodations
Available to: On-campus, Online and Doctoral Students
Accessibility Services assists students with temporary disabling conditions (6 months or less) resulting from injuries, surgery, or short-term medical conditions who may need accommodations or access to services and resources. Examples of temporary disabilities include broken limbs, hand injuries, and other short-term impairments after surgery or medical treatments. A cold, flu, or other common illnesses usually will not qualify you for temporary accommodations. Students will need to work with each of their instructors independently.
Reasonable accommodations are intended to minimize the impact of specific limitations caused by the temporary disabling condition for a qualified individual to have equal access to programs, services, and activities.
To receive reasonable accommodations for a temporary disabling condition, the student must submit the request for Temporary Accommodations form as soon as possible indicating the type of disabling condition, severity, limitations, prognosis, and estimated duration of the disabling condition. Professional documentation should be recent enough to identify current limitations and the estimated healing time. The student and Assistant Director will need to meet before accommodations can possible be granted.
The Assistant Director will advise the student of approved accommodations and communicate with university personnel as needed to coordinate services. Individuals will be contacted via their Indiana Tech email regarding their eligibility status and may need to submit a temporary accommodations letter to faculty through the AIM portal.
Note: Requests for Temporary Handicap Parking Permits must be obtained from the BMV with the paperwork given to you by your provider. R Parking Permits may be eligible for a temporary C Parking Permit if the Assistant Director determines it necessary. This will be coordinated between Accessibility Services and Security.
The Medical Provider Form can be used for your provider to complete if medical paperwork is not able to answer all questions.
