What we do
We all struggle with writing at one time or another, and we all benefit from having another set of eyes and ears to test our writing conversation out on a real audience. That’s why Indiana Tech’s Writing Center is here. We are about the person, not the paper. We want to help create better writers.
The Writing Center is a place where undergraduate and graduate students on our Fort Wayne campus can get free support and feedback on writing and presentation assignments. We are not a drop-off editing service. Instead, we are here to work one-on-one with all writers, at all levels of proficiency, for all courses. We help students at any stage of their writing process–brainstorming a topic, formatting a final draft or practicing a presentation. Here are some additional ways we help:
For students
Undergraduate Traditional Day students – we offer writing assistance with our face-to-face peer tutoring program. Please use the link before to schedule a meeting! Traditional Day students may also utilize Tutor.com by accessing the link through your course Canvas page.
Online Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students – we provide free writing assistance through Tutor.com. Professional tutors can assist you with all your writing needs. This resource is offered at no additional cost if accessed through your Canvas course page.
Doctoral students may contact the department at phd@indianatech.edu to arrange for additional writing assistance as needed.
For faculty
We offer classroom presentations about our services and answer any questions your students may have. We can also develop workshops for faculty, students, and staff. Make a request, whether for a specific assignment, specific need, or any training related to writing and presenting.

Hi, my name is Chanté. I’m a senior psychology major and a player on the women’s soccer team here at Indiana Tech. I’m interested in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, and I also enjoy history and sociology. I love writing and everything that comes with it. Now, I’m used to writing essays and papers, but to be honest, that was not always the case. Before coming to college, I really struggled with my confidence when it came to writing; I felt I lacked clarity and creativity. What helped me overcome this insecurity was feedback and guidance from teachers who believed in me. Here at the Writing Center, we wish to provide an environment that encourages you to be confident in your abilities. When it comes to writing help, there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and there is certainly no such thing as a “perfect writer.” We want to tailor our approach to your needs and strengths and help you overcome your weaknesses. Hey, I’m Amberlee, and I am a sophomore here at Indiana Tech. I enjoy working with others and helping make things easier to understand. I’ve always loved expressing my creativity through writing, and I enjoy finding different ways to communicate my ideas.
I believe that everyone learns different, so I want to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges. I’m excited to use the skills I’ve developed through my college experience to encourage and support other students in reaching their goals. When I’m not studying, writing, or tutoring, I enjoy playing games, spending time with my friends and family, and doing activities that challenge my mind. I am looking forward to helping other students grow as writers and making IT Work for everybody.
Junior, Biomedical Engineering/Mechatronics and Robotics Design
I am originally from Fort Wayne and currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Mechatronics, along with a minor in Mathematics. My passions encompass machine psychology, neuroscience, autonomous robotics, history, music, rock climbing, and, naturally, writing.
I began writing casually during my freshman year of high school and have participated in various writing contests, such as the Indiana State 4-H and the Writers of the Future Contest. My ambition is to assist students in overcoming their fears and to help them discover the enjoyment and advantages of writing, whether for academic purposes or for leisure. Hi! My name is Makena, and I’m a graduate student studying Project Management. I have always enjoyed working with language and communication, beginning with advanced language classes in high school and continuing through my experience in speech and debate. During my time in speech and debate, I was honored to receive the Most Confident Speaker Award, which helped strengthen my passion for communication and building confidence in others.
As a writing tutor, I’m happy to help with any type of assignment, whether you’re brainstorming ideas, organizing your thoughts, developing a draft, or polishing your final paper. My goal is to meet students where they are and create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges.
One of my favorite things is coaching people and watching them grow—not only in their skills, but also in their confidence. Hey, my name is Drew. I’m a sophomore at Indiana Tech studying cybersecurity and organizational leadership. In high school, I never thought of myself as a good writer, but thanks to my professors and friends in the writing center, I’ve gained more confidence in my skills and found my own style. Now, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with my peers. Many of my writing challenges stemmed from not having a clear plan when I started writing and from waiting until the last minute to do everything in one sitting, an hour before it was due. If that sounds like you, know you’re not alone! Outside of tutoring, I’m involved in student organizations and intern at the wellness clinic; I really enjoy challenging myself and others, as well as playing games with my friends. Whether it’s planning, refining, or starting your first draft, the Writing Center is here to help you at any stage of your process! Hope to see you there!
Hi, my name is Imraan. I am a senior health science pre-professional major from Australia, and I am also a member of the men’s volleyball team. I love all forms of media and storytelling and have found that to be the source of my passion for writing and literature. This stems from my admiration for the creative arts, which honestly still surprises me to this day. Growing up, I wasn’t the best at writing or being creative in general; however, I was still a fan of media and the art form. I really grew into my writing style and ability as I entered college, where peer-to-peer interaction and professor feedback helped me build confidence and improve my writing process. This is where the Writing Center truly excels, as we aim to help guide students through the challenges that come with college-level writing. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy working out, playing video games, and being a friendly face out and about, so don’t be afraid to say hi!
Hi, my name is Daniela. I’m a senior studying Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Chemistry. Even though people say that engineering and writing don’t go hand in hand, I disagree. Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved writing papers whether they are research, argumentative or laboratory reports. I understand not everyone might like writing as much as I do, but I do believe we all have potential to excel in writing. I look forward to share a little bit of my enthusiasm and help anyone who comes to uncover their potential in writing.

Many years ago, prior to becoming an Assistant Professor of English at Indiana Tech, I was a tutor at a writing center. I had always loved writing, but working as a tutor showed me that I also had a passion for helping people. I’m delighted to return to this work though in a slightly different role, this time supporting our tutors as they provide students with feedback on their writing. I hope you will consider scheduling an appointment with one of them to talk about your next writing project!
